MacUser and MacWEEK on Mac OS WWW.Some months ago, Jason Snell of MacUser wrote to tell me that he was using WebSTAR to develop a production server at MacUser magazine. This announcement came about partly because I was raking muck about the lack of Mac OS webservers at Mac OS publications, MacUser being one of them, and Snell fired back that he had been fighting for Mac OS Internet servers at MacUser for years, and had just scored this first victory.
Good news!
What surprised even me was how much work ZDNet gave this one little box to do:
First, MacWEEK's Mac the Knife is here too. You wondered where the Knife gets those tips, and why he (she?) keeps ignoring your email? Better join the Knife's Mac OS Web Crossing discussion board:
Next we have the summary CPU ratings for Mac OS compatibles, with street prices, plus many different sort options and variations:
And then, the only other service at mightymouse.macuser.zd.com so far as we know, look up all products with MacUser ratings, as you like them (5 Mouse 1996 products below):
Write to Jason Snell at ZDNet and MacUser Magazine to find out more about the creation and operation of this deep Mac OS server site.
PS -- Carl Steadman and Jason Snell have written the book 'Providing Internet Services via the Mac OS,' but it was inconvenient for them to put the book web site on Mac OS, so it's not. And so I can't in good conscience point to it here. Sigh. What do you think? No flames, please, these guys work for us. Addison Wesley should pay, imho, but perhaps there is a Mac OS ISP hosting volunteer?
Brad has kept independent lists of Mac OS WWW servers since October 1994.
